Top of the Gulf Regatta Report

The Top of the Gulf Regatta held in Thailand has always been the highlight regatta of every SMU sailor. This year, the SMU TOTG warriors brought back a 2nd from the IRC class 3 as well as commendable 7th and 9th placing in the Platu Coronation Cup; one of the most competitive one design racing in Asia.

The racing was competitive with world class sailors in their respective classes and the SMU sailors still managed to have fun both on and off the water with excellent sailing conditions as well as well planned after race parties.

The SMU sailing team would like to thank our esteem mentors, many of whom have spent hours planning and helped us make this trip successful.

From the office of Student life: Alan Koh, Andrew Tam and Jinella Chua

SMU sailing would also like to thank the Top of the Gulf Regatta event planners as well as race organizers for a successful and memorable regatta.

TOTG Warriors

The battle lines are drawn as the SMU Sailing TOTG Warriors assemble in their boat groups and here, introducing the 2012 TOTG contingent:

Skippered by ex-national sailor and Battle @ the Bay 3 Champion Shaun TOH. He is without a doubt one of the most experienced skippers in SMU and this is his 3rd outing at TOTG. Shaun divides his free time outside waters taking amazing photos and  fixing stuff with marine tech epoxy.

The next platu is skippered by ex-national sailor and WORLD byte champion Calvin LIM. Also another truly remarkable skipper in SMU, this is Calvin’s 2nd time at TOTG and in his 2 years in SMU, he has led both himself and the club to numerous podium finishes in international regattas. Calvin spends his free time and good charms liberally getting everyone but himself drunk on alcohol.

Finally SMU Sailing’s very own champion optimist sailor, winning several championship titles in CSC and also a ex-national sailor himself: Gregory HO. Also his 2nd time in TOTG as a skipper, Greg has learnt many valuable lessons from Ocean Marina and he intends to use this to his team’s advantage on the bigger and faster X99. Gregory spends his free time pampering the love of his life Yuhui.

Finally, presenting the entire 2012 TOTG Warriors in full glory:

Before TOTG this year…

Hello everyone,

My friend Alistar from AUS has kindly given me a magazine from AUS that features the entire TOTG regatta last year and i’d like to share the article especially with the freshmen who have no idea what TOTG is gonna be like. By the way, there’s a error in the article since magic dragon is actually not part of SMU.

Relax reading. Enjoy.

Thanks again to Bob for giving us his beloved SB3, SMU Sailing will put this boat out into the water soon and hopefully we’ll win some medals.
